Lenore Marie (Dutton) Anderson, known as Lee Marie, passed away in her San Pedro home on Monday, according to the San Jose Mercury News. Anderson, the widow of a two-term California lieutenant governor and congressman, died from complications of melanoma. She was 87.

Anderson's son, Evan Braude, told the Mercury News that Anderson raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for nonprofit organizations in the South Bay and Long Beach areas, and served as a board member of San Pedro Peninsula Hospital (now Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center) and as a Los Angeles Harbor commissioner. Anderson also created the Glenn and Lee Anderson Foundation. Anderson earned many awards for her philanthropic work, the Mercury News reported, including the Torch of Liberty Award from the Anti-Defamation League and the Youth Award from the Wilmington Boys & Girls Club (now the Boys & Girls Club of the Los Angeles Harbor).

Anderson married Glenn Anderson in 1957. Anderson was active in his political career, first as lieutenant governor from 1959 to 1967 and then in Congress from 1969 to 1993, said the Mercury News. In 1969, he won a Congressional seat and remained there until a year before his death in December 1994.

Anderson is survived by her son, Evan; her brother, Jack Dutton; Glenn Anderson's children Melinda Keenan and Glenn Michael Anderson; and six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will take place on Sunday, Sept. 30, at 1 p.m. at Green Hills Memorial Park, 27501 South Western Ave. in Rancho Palos Verdes. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to San Pedro YMCA, 301 S. Bandini St., San Pedro, CA 90731; Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center, San Pedro, 1300 Seventh St., San Pedro, CA 90731; or the Historical Society of Long Beach, 4260 Atlantic Ave., Long Beach, CA 90807.
