A World War II Veteran, he Served in the Pacific Theatre; including actions in New Guinea and the Philippines liberation. Upon his return from the War, he went to work for the Bell Telephone Co. and spent his career as a Service Technician, retiring in 1977 after 30 years. His sense of service and devotion to the community was further expressed when he became a Freemason at the Keystone Masonic Lodge in Northfield, N.J. He was an active member of Trinity Alliance Church and sincerely loved God, his family & friends.
He was a dedicated family man, a loving Husband, a Father of 3, Grandfather of 5, and Great-Grandfather of 7. Everyone knew him to be a true friend, always ready and willing to lend a helping hand. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed.
Predeceasing William are his parents William D. and Abigail, his wife Doris (nee' Maholland) of 60 years, and his brothers Robert and Joseph.
William is survived by his sister Eleanor Gilfillan, 3 sons, William F. Bowen, of Pleasantville, Russell Bowen (Barbara) of Galloway and Donald Bowen (Cynthia) of Brunswick, Ohio.
He is also survived by his beloved fiancée Phoebe Frye of Absecon and his grandchildren Lori Copsey (James II, Russell Bowen (Brigid), Jennifer Bowen, Catherine Hardin (Brandon) and Marlena Bowen. Great Grandchildren: Madisen, James III, Jackson, Margret, William, Niko, Sophia.
Services will be held on Friday October 5th at the Lowenstein Funeral Home, 58 South New York Road, Galloway NJ. Interment will be Greenwood Cemetery, Pleasantville N.J. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Masonic Charity Foundation, Burlington NJ., or Trinity Alliance Church, Egg Harbour City NJ.
