Poet. He received notoriety as a Japanese poet of the 20th century. Also known as "Aika Toki," his poetry was primarily in the "waka" style and covered everyday subjects using roman alphabet characters. He wrote several literary studies, including one on the poet Munetake Tayasu that received the Japan Academy Award for literature in 1947. Previous to this, he and Minoru Kita collaborated on a modern Noh play, "Yumedono." He was a well-known expert and lecturer on the life and works of renowned Chinese poet Du Fu.
