Author. She wrote the work "Life in Dixie During the War", a personal narrative of life in Georgia during the Civil War. First published in 1892, it was hailed for being a brilliant account of the experiences of a Southern woman as she struggled through the devastating hardship brought by the conflict. The house she lived in Decatur, Georgia is now on the National Register of Historic Sites. She toured the South shortly after the war and procured funds through donations for the beautiful iron fence that surrounds the McGavock Confederate Cemetery in Franklin, Tennessee where her brother Lt. Thomas Jefferson Stokes was killed and is now buried there.
