Born April 26, 1923 Conway, Arkansas Passed Away March 2, 2011 Lafayette, Colorado James Bentley Victory of Westminster, Colorado April 26, 1923 March 2, 2011 Graveside Service to be held at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa on Monday, March 28th at 10:30 am. James was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and wife Darlene. James is survived by his five children Tom, Sandra, Marty, Joanne, and Buck as well as nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. James grew up in the south before joining the U.S. Army during World War II and serving this great country in the South Pacific. Following his time in the military, James moved to Des Moines, Iowa and married his beautiful wife Darlene and started their family. Wanting to give his family a great adventure, they packed up and moved to Golden, Colorado. In Colorado he raised his young family with a love of the mountains, gold panning, and fishing. James loved working on machinery and inventing items such as one of the first snowmobiles, an electric motor to start lawnmowers, and a charcoal filtered air cleaner for the home. In the late 1960s, James packed his family up to move back to Iowa to be near other family members. Soon after he began welcoming into the world the next generation of his brood, his grandchildren. James loved being a grandpa. He got great joy out of having his grandchildren gathered around him and would share with them tall tales of the old west. Always the charismatic jokester, each tale would end with a great punch line followed by the delighted giggles of his grandchildren. In 1980, the Colorado Rockies called James back and he and his wife moved to Broomfield, Colorado. In 1983 James lost his loving wife Darlene, he was held up through this difficult time by the support and love of his children. In 1986 James met his next great love, Dorothy Lockwood. James and Dorothy spent their golden years together in Westminster gardening, traveling, and enjoying time with their great-grandchildren. He remained in Colorado for the rest of his life and spent as much time as he could in the mountains that he adored, fishing, gold panning, and even visiting the casinos in Central City and Blackhawk. In his last few days with us, James was surrounded by Dorothy and the family that loved him greatly. Even in his last days, James continued to share life lessons and advice with his family and even managed to share some of his famous tall tales with his great-grandson and of course ended each one with a great punch line. Arrangements by All-Veterans Funeral and Cremation.
