In Memory of…..Virginia G. Estrada.
*** Cemetery had four Estradas listed, but not this person. Suggested they may be in Donna City Cemetery, Donna, TX.

You may be gone, no longer living on this earth; but you will live on - in the memories of your family and friends. There will always be a part of you living in those who knew you. You will live on because we remember you!

Virginia G. Estrada, 92, of Brownsville, TX, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 16, 2010, following a brief illness.

She was born in Brownsville, TX, October 31, 1917, the only child of Juan and Virginia Garza, who preceded her in death.

Having just celebrated her 70th wedding anniversary on October 6, she is survived by the love of her life, Carlos A. Estrada, whom she married in 1940.

Virginia was educated in Brownsville at Incarnate Word Academy and Villa Maria High School, where she graduated in 1935. She also attended Brownsville Business College at night in the late thirties; developing her business skills while working full time and completed her studies there about the time she met a dashing young engineer from California, who would become her life-long devoted partner of seventy years.

Among the many sacrifices Virginia would endure during her long life, none surpassed the lost of her first two children, Captain Carlos A. Estrada, Jr., a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, who was killed in action in 1970, while serving his country in the Republic of Vietnam, and Virginia Estrada, a daughter who died in infancy.

In addition to her husband, Carlos, she is survived by two sons, Robert A. Estrada and his wife, Catherine, of Fort Worth, TX; Jorge L. Estrada of Brownsville, TX; and a daughter, Laura V. Estrada, and her husband, Paul Hermann, of Dallas, TX.

She is also survived by seven granddaughters, Camela Estrada, Christina Estrada, Monica Estrada Browne, and her husband, Daniel; Lily Estrada, Marissa Estrada Spannaus, and her husband, Matthew; Rachel Estrada, Virginia "Gina" Estrada, and a step-grandson, Buck Mosier. She is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Taylor & Grant Patterson.

Visitation for Virginia Estrada will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 19, at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. Family will be greeting friends and relatives at 6:00 p.m. A Catholic mass celebrating her life will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 20.All services will conclude at the church.

Pallbearers are Daniel Browne, Matt Spannaus, Noe Hinojosa Jr., Salvador Castañeda, Emilio Crixell Jr., and Les Aistrich. Honorary Pallbearers include Dr. Roberto Robles, Emilio Crixell, Tony Gonzalez and Jose E. Martinez.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Carlos A. & Virginia G. Estrada Scholarship Endowment at the University of Texas at Brownsville, 80 Fort Brown, Brownsville, TX 78520.

Dearest Carlos and Family,
I was so saddened to hear of Virginia's passing. What a very beautiful woman she was. I have such fond memories of when I was a child, my mother would take me and Dolores to the house to make a pottery piece and what fun we had. I still have many mugs which Virginia made especially for me with my name on it. She will so be missed.
My prayers and love are with you now.

Dear Madrina,
We will miss your beautiful smile, your laugh and your ever present love that our family has cherished from you for over 70 years. It is not often these days that one can say that two families have shared a bond that has spanned three generations, and we have always treasured that honor. As Grandma, Mom and I have been recalling the many memories of the wonderful times we shared with you over the decades, we pause to take a moment to thank God for having been blessed with your presence in our lives. We send our love to Padrino, Bob, Laura, Jorge, Mari and the entire Estrada family, as we join you in mourning the loss of a family member.

Dear Estrada Family,
It was always such a pleasure getting to see Tita and Tata at family events. I loved to see Tita's face as all of the girls entertained the crowd. She always had a look of amusement and pride! Spencer and I are so blessed to know all of you and experience the love and compassion that Tita instilled in you for family and friends. Please know that we are praying for you to be comforted; that you will know that Tita has had a victory! She has been welcomed to Heaven by Carlos and Virginia and so many other loved ones. We are thinking of you and love you all.

Laura and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I met your mom on our Padre trip last year and what a sweet lady! I know she will be sorely missed by the whole family. You know that she is now an angel and free of any pain. It's always hard to lose a parent, no matter how ill they get. Letting them go is the hardest thing to do. Robert and I would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the Estrada family. Mrs. Estrada was a lovely lady, deeply devoted to her family, friends, and her faith and her church. Her talent was amazing, and she generously shared it with so many people including my own mother, Amparo. They became close and dear friends and shared many years of china painting, Catholic Daughter activities, parties, showers and chnia painting conventions and classes. Viginia's family, her many friends and students and the Brownsville community will miss her deeply.
