His many songs included "A Plantation Ditty", "A Banjo Song", "Requiem", "Casey at the Bat" and "The House that Jack Built". He also taught harmony counterpoint singing and wrote patriotic songs. Classical contralto singer Louise Homer was his wife, for whom he wrote many of his songs. He died in Winter Park, Florida.
