Professional Tennis Player. Margaret was a former World Number 1 female American player. She won a total of 37 singles, doubles and mixed doubles Grand Slam titles - 25 of them at the United States Championships, 5 at Roland Garros and 7 at Wimbledon. She married William duPont Jr in 1947 and later gave birth to her only child, William III. She became one of the few women to win a major tennis title after becoming a mother. In 1948, she won the United States Championships playing what is still the longest women's singles final to be played there (48 games). She teamed with Louise Brough to win 20 Grand Slam women's double titles - tied for all-time record with Martina Navratilova and Pam Shriver. After retiring from tennis, she partnered with former tennis player, Margaret Varner Bloss, to raise racehorses at the duPont-Bloss Stables near El Paso, Texas. She was inducted in the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1967.
