Elizabeth Radley Anderson, 75, of 116 West Lyon Farm Drive, Greenwich, and 3 Duncan Close, Edgartown, MA, died Friday morning as a result of complications from a stroke.

Born June 13, 1935 in Stamford to Eleanor Bartram Radley and John J. Radley, Jr., Liz graduated from The Greenwich Country Day School and Ethel Walker School in Simsbury. She attended Smith College in Northampton, MA, and graduated from The Katherine Gibbs School in New York City.

For Liz, family and friends were the focus of her life. She spent a great deal of time keeping in touch with those she knew. A remarkable and much admired mother, she was a tremendous cheerleader and used her talents and determination to great effect, notably for Greenwich Country Day, Putnam Indian Field School, and The Greenwich Skating Club.

In more recent years, Liz concentrated her efforts on Family Centers, a non-profit organization that works to improve the quality of individual, family and community life through education and human service programs in Greenwich and the surrounding communities.

Following in her mother's footsteps, Liz was actively involved and was on the board for many years. She chaired the Board of Directors from 1992 to 1995, during which time a significant capital campaign was undertaken to purchase and renovate the two buildings that are now the Adele D. Wenning Counseling Building and the Joan Melber Warburg Early Childhood Center.

After her tenure as board president, Liz chaired two major, complicated and successful fundraisers - the Family Centers Circus benefits in 1996 and 1998. All of these endeavors led to her being selected as the first recipient of the Helen Gratz Rockefeller Outstanding Volunteerism Award, the Family Centers' highest award, in 1994.

An exceptional woman with diverse interests, Liz was remarkable for her ability to bring people together, her strong sense of loyalty and her devotion to organizations that make a difference to children and families in the community. She was a longtime resident of Greenwich and Edgartown, MA.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Katy and Chris Gray, and granddaughters, Eleanor and Lulu Gray of Greenwich. She is also survived by her sister, Edie Radley of Edgartown, MA, and many nieces and nephews, as well as a tremendous circle of friends.

A funeral service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 in Christ Church in Greenwich.
Interment at Putnam Cemetery will be private.
A memorial service is also scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 6, 2010 in St. Andrews Church in Edgartown, MA.
