Joseph P. Adducci, 70, died Saturday in Elizabethtown, Ky. A resident of Homewood, Mr. Adducci was traveling to Georgia to spend Christmas with relatives. Mr. Adducci was a retired deputy chief of the Homewood Fire Department, where he worked from 1966 to 1986. He was also a fire prevention engineer with Insurance Services Office for more than 30 years. A graduate of The Citadel in Charleston, S.C., Mr. Adducci also was a former president of the Firemen's Association and a colonel in the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II. Mr. Adducci was awarded seven Purple Hearts. He is survived by wife, Patricia; a daughter, Jane Vogel; a stepdaughter, Lynn Scott; his mother; a sister; and four grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m.

Mr. Adducci, of Homewood, died in his sleep during a stopover while traveling to Georgia to spend Christmas with relatives.
He retired in 1986 after spending 20 years with the department. Before that, he had been a fire prevention engineer for Insurance Services Office for 30 years.
Mr. Adducci graduated from the Citadel in Charleston, S.C. As a colonel in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in World War II, he worked on the Burma Road.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia; a daughter, Jane Vogel; a stepdaughter, Lynn Scott; his mother, Emma; a sister, Margaret Tiggelaar, and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Tews Funeral Home, 18203 S. Dixie Hwy., Homewood. Services will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at the chapel, with mass following at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 17951 Dixie Hwy., Homewood. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery, 19500 S. Cottage Grove, Glenwood.
