Dorothy was born May 20, 1919, a daughter of Otis E. and Maggie Folkerts Bargman, rural Piper City. She married Richard R. Ashman on Dec. 19, 1935, in rural Chatsworth. He preceded her in death on March 31, 1989.–
She is survived by: one son, Rodger E. (Carol) Ashman, Mount Prospect; one daughter, Betty A. (Loren) Gillette, Chatsworth; five grandchildren, Mindy (Nick) Gray, Joel (Marcia) Ashman, Richard (Denise) Gillette, Carl (Glenda) Gillette and Beth Gillette; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Leroy "Sonny" (Georgianna) Bargman, Chatsworth; a sister, Mary Hornickel, Chatsworth; and a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Ellis, Naples, Fla.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four sisters and one brother.
Dorothy was the head cook at the Chatsworth School cafeteria and had been the one to get the cafeteria started. She also had a catering business. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Chatsworth, where she was very active. She was a member of Royal Neighbors of America and was also a member of the kitchen band. She had been awarded The Noble Pearson Award which is the Chatsworth Citizen of the Year Award in 2000. She was an avid quilter and card player.
