MARY ALTMAN
FEBRUARY 22, 1895

On Saturday evening, February 18, at seven o'clock, at the home of her grandmother, at Metamora, occurred the death of Mary Altman, youngest daughter of Mrs. Mary Altman and only sister of Mrs. William Royal, of this city.
Deceased had for several years been in poor health and had, with her mother, spent a year in California for the benefit of her health. As the cold weather of the past winter came on, she began to decline, and before preparations could be made to return to California, her condition was such that she was unable to make the trip. She was taken from the home of her sister here, to Metamora, where her grandmother's illness required her mother's care. She gradually grew weaker and died at the time above.
Mary Altman was born in this village on
May 17, 1868. Her parents for many years conducted a general merchandise business in the east end of town and had wide aquaintances in the vicinity, having started here in an early day. As a consequence, Miss Mary had a very extensive aquaintance and innumerable friends, whose heartfelt sympathy is with the bereaved mother, sister and brother, the later being in California and unable to attend the burial, as the sudden change in climate it would have necessitated, was considered dangerous. Deceased had spent the greater part of her life here, where she was held in high esteem by all. Her early death is greatly lamented, she having been of a most charitable, hopeful and generous disposition.
The funeral was held from SS.Peter and Paul's church on Tuesday morning at ten o'clock, Rev. Father Quinn delivering a forcible and eulogistic address. The floral offerings were many and elaborate. The remains were laid to rest beside those of her father in Chatsworth Cemetery.
