CHATSWORTH - Richard R. "Jack" Ashman, 78, of Chatsworth, a longtime school custodian, died at 12:33 p.m. yesterday (March 31, 1989) at Brokaw Hospital, Normal.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Chatsworth, the Rev. Richard Hertenstein officiating. Burial will in Chatsworth Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Culkin-Diggle Funeral Home, Chatsworth, and for one hour before the service Monday at the church.
He was born Nov. 16, 1910, in Chatsworth, a son of Robert and Elizabeth Wurmnest Ashman. He married Dorothy Bargman on Dec. 19, 1935, in Chatsworth. She survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Betty Gillette, Chatsworth; a son, Rodger, Mount Prospect; a sister, Betty Ellis, Naples, Fla.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers.
Mr. Ashman was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and had served on the church council. He farmed in the Chatsworth area until 1953 and then was custodian at Chatsworth Grade School for 20 years before retiring in 1976.
He was a former member of the Chatsworth Sportsmen's Club and the Chatsworth Lions Club.
Memorials may be made to his church's Elevator Fund.
