A Mineral, retired coal miner and carpenter, George D. Bryan, 72, died Thursday morning at his home. Interment was in the Mineral cemetery.
Mr. Bryan was born Nov. 7, 1902, in Mineral, the son of George D. and Grace Williams Bryan, Sr. A lifelong resident of Mineral, he had served as an alderman on the Mineral town board for 37 years, served on the Mineral township cemetery committee; served as town clerk; and committee member and trustee of Mineral-Gold Fire district. Mr. Bryan retired from mining in 1969. He was a member of the Progressive Miners' union.
He married Leta Mendenhall Bennett June 25, 1949, in Elgin, and she survives. Also surviving are two brothers, Mace of Maywood, Virgil of Rosedale, Ariz.; two step-daughters, Mrs. Ethel Donaldson, Beloit, Wis., Mrs. Virgil (Billie) Miller, Sheffield; two step-sons, Ralph Bennett, Washington, DC., Clark Bennett, Rantoul; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.
