George Edward Canty, Jr., 70, a lifelong resident of Berwick, passed away Thursday, July 14, 2011 at his home.

George was born January 24, 1941 in Berwick, the son of George Edward Canty, Sr. and Sidney Estelle Grow. On August 31, 1962 he married Una Marie Bruney and she survives of the home.

He loved hunting, fishing, and trapping and was an avid gun collector and boat builder. He was an Engineer with Tide Water Marine for 42 years.

George is survived by his wife, Una; one daughter, Gwendolyn Canty Tellman, and husband Douglas; two sons, Shawn Canty and wife Tammy, Bannon Canty, all of Berwick; six grandchildren, Glynn Guidry, Jr., Nicole Canty, Shawn Canty, Nicholas Canty, Seth Canty, Tarrin Canty, all of Berwick; three great-grandchildren, Lillyian Guidry of Bayou Vista, Angelique Guidry, and Payton Guidry both of Berwick. He is also survived by one sister, Josephine Canty LaCoste, of Berwick.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, George Edward Canty, III; one brother, Carl Canty; one sister, Mary Gallier.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 18, 2011 at Twin City Funeral Home with Father Courville officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Sunday, July 17, 2011 at Twin City Funeral Home with a Rosary being prayed at 7:00 PM. Visitation will resume from 9:00 AM until the time of the service on Monday at the funeral home. George will be laid to rest in the Berwick Cemetery following the services.
