He was born June 12, 1927 in Utica, Ohio and was a 1945 graduate of Utica High School.
Bob served with the U.S. Marine Corp during WWII. After his discharge from the service, he was employed for thirty six years at General Motors Fisher Body in Elyria retiring as a general foreman in 1982. During his employment at General Motors he attended Fenn College and is a member of G.M. Salaried Retirement Group. For thirty years after his retirement he owned and operated a lawn and landscaping service. He was a member of Grafton United Methodist Church and Elyria American Legion Post #12. Bob was a life member of Elyria Elks Lodge 465. For sixty two years he bowled in the Elks league and was also secretary of the Elks golf league. He was a member of Stonington Lodge # 503 F & AM, Marshal Chapter #47, Elyria Council #86, Scottish Rite Valley of Cleveland, Al Koran Shrine, Lorain County Shrine Club, a charter member of Lorain County Shrine Fire Brigade and one of the drivers of the Shrine hospital van. He was a past patron of Stone City Chapter #325 O.E.S.
Bob is survived by his wife of sixty four years, Barbara A. (nee: Wolfe); son, Robert L. “Bud” Abbott, Jr. of Elyria; daughters, Amy Saggio of Crescent Springs, Kentucky and Mary Callesen of Vermilion; granddaughters, Lindsey (Tom) McNeill of Rocky River and Dana (Chris) Troup of Avon Lake and brothers, Jim Abbott of Newark and Les Abbott of Utica.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ella Abbott and four brothers and four sisters.
Friends will be received Thursday April 21, 2016 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Dicken Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 323 Middle Avenue, Elyria. Stonington Lodge # 503 F & AM will conduct a service at 3:00 PM and Elyria Elks Lodge will conduct a service at 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be Friday April 22, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Grafton United Methodist Church, 973 Mechanic Street, Grafton, Ohio. Pastor Bob Kuntz will officiate. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery.
