Dr. Charles M. Ackerman, 85, an Elyria optometrist for 55 years, died in North Arlington, Va., Sunday night following a heart attack. He had been in ill health for several months.
Born in Vermillion, Sept. 7, 1879, Dr. Ackerman moved to Illinois after retiring from his professional activities. he was a former member of the United Presbyterian Church here, of Frank S. Harmon Masonic Lodge No. 663 and Marshall Chapter No 47.
Surviving are his wife, Madge, a daughter, Mrs. Irene Sherwin, Arlington, seven grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Albert Gegenheimer, Cleveland Heights and two nephews.
Service will be Friday at 11 a.m. in the Wainright Funeral Home with the Rev. John B. Mellinger officiating. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 7 to 9:30 p.m.
