Dianne Lynn Ash, 61, of Lumberport, left this life and joined her awesome God and loving savior Jesus Christ on April 25, 2012, at Mon General Hospital, after a very courageous fight against cancer.
She was born in Clarksburg, November 26, 1950, during the great Applachian snowstorm, a daughter to the late Max W. and Marjorie A. Robinson Harbert. Survived by her loving and devoted husband, Michael L. Ash, her high school sweetheart, whom she married May 8, 1971. They would have celebrated 41 years of marriage this year. During the past 5 years, they enjoyed moving to and restoring Dianne's childhood home on Jones Run Road. Many cherished memories were made with their grandchildren while enjoying a quiet country life.
She is survived by her three children, daughters, Greta K. Ash Hardman and her husband, John and Amanda L. Ash Boring and husband, Greg and a son, Curtis D. Ash.
Dianne loved her children and was the great encourager in their lives. She was so proud of each one achieving and practicing in their chosen professions in life but especially proud of them as living examples of christian beliefs in their work, homes, family and as responsible parents. They have each shown devotion and respect to their parents by being unfailing in their presence and care during the time of their mother's illness and being a living example of what it means to "Honor thy Father and Mother". Of all the roles. Dianne played in her life, the most treasured was being "Nana" to her precious grandchildren, Cameron, Kaden, Ashton, Halie, Macie and Braelyn. Whether they were searching the woods for a rabbit, going on long bike rides, or quietly working a puzzle or playing a game, the children always knew how special they were. Of all the fond memories of their Nana, none will ever compare to listening to and singing praise and worship music as loud as possible in the car.
Dianne is also survived by a very close and loving family, two brothers, David P. Harbert and wife, Linda and G. Michael Harbert and wife, Ginger; three sisters, Ramona A. Swiger and husband, Rick, Lisa M. Green and husband, Larry and Maxine K. Ice and husband, Jamie, Lumberport. She also had many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews whom she loved like her own. A cherished mother-in-law, Mary June Ash. Loved Uncle and Aunt, Bill and Joann Robinson; a special sister-Cousin, Joy Greenstreet; lifelong friends Tom and Charlotte Rogers and
many other special and devoted friends.
She was also preceded in death by her father-in-law, Rev. Elman C. "Mickey" Ash, Jr.
Dianne's career as a dental hygienist spanned for 42 years most of which was spent at Total Dental in Bridgeport. She proudly maintained the healthy smiles of her patients. Her dedication to her patients kept her working until her illness no longer allowed her to.
A special thank you to Dr. Jeff Browning and co-workers for their understanding and support.
She was a lifelong resident of the Lumberport area. A graduate from Lumberpot High School in 1968 and received her associate degree in Dental Hygiene from West Liberty State College in 1970. Dianne was an active and longtime member of Lumberport Baptist Church, where she served as a Deaconess and children's music director for many years. Through her longtime children's ministry, Dianne planted the seed of Christian faith in many young minds by directing Sunday morning music time, countless bible school programs and holiday specials. Her biggest accomplishments as a music director were the productions of "Down By the Creek Bank"and "Psalty- A Heart to Change the World". Dianne had a special gift of showing people she loved them in many different ways. Hot meals, cards and encouraging words were just some of the ways she showed others how special they were. Dianne loved to share her faith with others. She was quoted as saying "that as long as her illness brought someone closer to Christ then it was all worth it". She enjoyed sewing, gardening, exercising and liked to collect turtles because of the longtime nickname given to her by her husband.
The family will forever be grateful for the compassionate and unwavering care of Dr. William McBee and the oncology staff at Mon General Hospital. They will always be considered a part of our family. Also, we would like to thank Dr. Craig Coonley and the oncology staff at UHC. Dianne truly was a "rare ruby" Proverbs 3:15. Friends will be received at the Harmer Funeral Home in Shinnston on Friday from 2 - 9 PM. A celebration of her life will be held at 12:00 Saturday, April 28,2012, at the Lumberport Baptist Church, with Pastor Chad Hutson officiating. She will lie in state from 10 - 12 at the Church. Interment will follow at the Lumberport Lions Club Cemetery.
