Ancel Bernarr Adams, "Red", was born to Ancel and Gertrude Adams on November 13, 1924 in Parowan, UT. He died on August 23, 2009 in Nampa, ID.

Red grew up in Parowan, UT, one of 10 children. After he graduated from high school he joined the U.S. Navy, where he served in the Pacific. After WWII he lived primarily in California. He worked as a mechanic for many years, then became a civilian policeman for the Navy at China Lake, CA. Red was a hard-working and responsible officer and retired as a captain from the police force after 20 years of service.

Red married Madilyn L. Steele in 1945. He was a loving and kind person, full of compassion and always helpful. He was a member of the LDS church. He served on the council of the LDS church in Council, ID for nine years and in the BoiseTemple for 14 years. In his younger days he liked to hunt and fish. Later, he preferred to take pictures. Red and Madilyn also enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the United States. Though he and Madilyn had no children, they were "uncle and aunt" to not only their own nieces and nephew, but to the children of many friends and neighbors as well.

Red is survived by his wife, Madilyn, of Boise; his nieces, Christine, of Boise and Nancy, of Saugus, CA; many more nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews; his brothers, Lorraine, Hardison, Spencer and Lloyd; and his sisters, Vilo, Trudy and Sharon, all of Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ancel and Gertrude; his sister, Maureen; and his brother, Brice.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 27, 2009 at the IdahoStateVeteransCemetery. Services are under the direction of Relyea Funeral Chapel. www.relyeafuneralchapel.com
