About six months later the family moved to the Portland, OR area - and shortly after that a move was made to Twin Falls, ID, where young Ken grew up into a fine young man. He developed a wonderful love of God, a great love of his parents, and became the model big brother for his three brothers.
Ken enlisted in the U. S. Air Force in January 1954 and was ready to see the world, but life just does not always go as planned. In 1956 Ken contracted polio and became very ill. This left him partially paralyzed for the rest of his life, and was honorably discharged from the Air Force on January 8, 1957. He returned to Idaho and took some classes in accounting, eventually becoming a Licensed Public Accountant.
In the early 1960's Ken knew the thrill of being a father when daughters, Becky, Terri, and Cindy, were born. A few years later he met and married Bobbie Thompson and Kevin was added to the Abbott family. For the family of six life was really very good, whether working, going to school or playing, they always enjoyed themselves.
Ken really enjoyed his time in The Knights of Columbus, serving as a Boy Scout Leader, or just spending time in the great outdoors. But all good things must come to an end; Ken began having health problems in the recent years. He "fought the good fight", but the Lord decided he had fought enough and let him come home, to walk, jump and run around Heaven.
Ken - husband, dad, grandpa and friend to all - very peacefully passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2011, with many of his family and friends with him.
He leaves behind his wife, Bobbie; daughters: Becky (Ron) Thomas, of Meridian, Terri Scott and Cindy Hylton, both of Cascade; his son, Kevin (Shawna) Abbott, of Meridian; brothers, Art (Gail) Abbott and Cecil Abbott, both of OR; grandchildren: Chad Tant, Chris Tant, Sarah Abbott and Cody Abbott, all of Meridian.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Paul.
