Staff Sergeant Jasper Theador Aaser, born 9 Jul 1917, was the middle of five sons of Ole Petterson Aaser. and Marie (Franson) Aaser of McVille, Nelson County, North Dakota. McVille is 112 miles northwest of Fargo and 180 miles south southwest of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
In the 1920 census 2-year-old Jasper is living with his parents and brothers Orvin 7, and Morris 4, in rural Central Township, Nelson County, North Dakota. Central is 10 miles north of McVille. His parents were both born in Norway. His father is farming.In the 1930 census 12-year-old Jasper is living with his parents and brothers Orvin 17, Morris 14, Joseph 12, and Martin 8 months, in Hamlin Township, Nelson County, North Dakota. Hamlin is 4 miles north northwest of McVille. His father is still farming.In the 1940 census 22-year-old Jasper is living with his parents and brothers Orvin 27, Morris 24, Joseph 22, Martin 10, and Elwood 9, still in Hamlin Township. His father is still farming. Orvin, Morris and Jasper are all working the family farm.Staff Sergeant Aaser was in the 359th Infantry Regiment of the 90th Infantry Division. On 10 Jan 1945, the 359th IR was north of the Sure River in Luxembourg 10 miles east southeast of Bastogne, Belgium. They had taken the village of Nothum the day before and were moving north between Doncols and Wiltz. Doncols was taken on the 11th.The NARA WWII casualty listings by state and county show Aaser, Jasper T., 37172273, S Sgt, from Nelson County, North Dakota, as killed in action 10 Jan 1945.
