Martha attended The Ohio State University where she majored in Business Education. While working her way through college, she met her husband Myron "Pete" Clarke Adams. Martha and Pete sought out the challenge of developing businesses that benefited a rural community in northwest Ohio. They operated a number of successful businesses in and around Ada and Alger, Ohio, including the Adams Food Company, a tomato canning factory, and an English styled restaurant, the Red Fox Inn.
Martha and Pete were married for 54 years and had three children, William Harris Adams, M.D., who resides in New York City, Judith Lee Adams who lives in San Diego, CA, and Elisabeth (Beth) Jane Adams Gaukler, of Gaithersburg, Maryland.
Martha and Pete retired to El Paso, Texas and later to the Orlando, Florida area. After Pete passed away in 1991, Martha relocated to Gaithersburg, Maryland to be near her daughter. Martha found joy in attending her grandchildren and great-grandchild's school and sports activities, being in nature, listening to music, and reading. Hosting and entertaining family and friends remained a passion and pleasure for her entire life. Martha was keenly interested in history and a life-long Republican who avidly followed world and political events.
Martha is survived by her three children; brother, William Harris, of Rochester, New York; sister, Lois Byrum, of Big Sandy, Tennessee; grandchildren, Anne Minteer, Christopher Gaukler and Emily Gaukler; and great grandchild, Joseph Celentino.
Services were entrusted to Ware Funeral Home of Chillicothe, Ohio.
