Bessie is the sister of my great grandmother. Their parents had six children, but their mother died three days after giving birth to the last. The children were farmed out to neighbors/friends. Bessie was "adopted", apparently by the Piears family, when she was about 3.

The following was published in The Lima News, Sunday, January 11, 1959:

Mrs. Bessie Piears Adams

ALGER - Mrs. Bessie Piears Adams, 79, Alger, died at 3 a.m. Saturday in the Ada Nursing Home, after an illness of several years. She had been seriously ill for two weeks.

She was born Nov. 5, 1879 in Williamsport, had lived in Alger about 40 years after moving from Green Springs.

She was married Jan. 3, 1900 to Will J. Adams, who died Dec. 3, 1958.

Surviving are two daughters, Miss Matilda Adams of Green Springs and Mrs. C. P. Radcliff of Gahanna; three sons, Howard of Cleveland, Byron and Franklin, both of Alger; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Clarksburg Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Clarksburg Methodist Church with Rev. Deloss Smith officiating.

Burial will be in Brown's Chapel Cemetery, near Clarksburg.

Friends may call at the Hanson Funeral Home, Alger, after 2 p.m. Sunday.

The body will be taken to Clarksburg Tuesday morning to lie in state until time for services in the church.
