He was born in Elizabeth, W.Va. on Feb. 27, 1938, one of 12 children of the late Obey Columbus and Pearl Grailey Bailey. He enjoyed working on the farm, raising chickens and the companionship of his dog Muffet.
He is survived by his wife Gloria Jean Fury Bailey, their eight children Carl Bailey Jr. and Barb, Rodney Bailey and Peggy, Susan Lemley and Rodney, Peanut Bailey and Tina, Doug Bailey and Cindy, Chuck Bailey and Jackie, Jeanie Bailey, Viki Bailey; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and 7 brothers and sisters Gary, Jackie, Bobbie, Ruth and Frank Bailey, Patty Parker and Opal Lockhart and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter Peggy Bailey, two grandchildren and four brothers and sisters, Eddie Bailey, Marion Parker, Gladys Bowman and Ruby Bailey.
The funeral service will be 3 p.m. Friday at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Rev. Larry Dale officiating. Burial will be at the Walker Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today and for one hour prior to the services on Friday.
