Former Auxiliary for the Archdiocese of Paris and Bishop of the Titular See of Summula, Monsignor Claude Henri Edouard Frikart CIM., was born in Ermont, Val d'Oise, France, and was ordained priest through the Congregation of Jesus and Mary of July 3, 1948, at the Saint-Sauveur Collegiate of Redon. Prefect of Sainte-Marie de Caen between 1950 and 1958, he moved to the Ivory Coast, where he served as almoner of the lyceums of Bouaké. Professor and economist of the Seminary of Abidjan from 1958 until 1965, in the latter year he was named rector of the named seminary, an office which he held until 1971.

Back in France, he served as parish priest of the Saint-Esprit parish of Paris from 1971 until 1983, and superior of the Eudist Fathers. Dean of the parishes of the 12th Arrondissement of Paris, at 64 years of age he was appointed Auxiliary for the Metropolitan See of Paris by Pope John Paul II, receiving his episcopal consecration with the Titular See of Summula on September 2, 1986, from Cardinal Jean-Marie Lustiger, assisted by Bishops Michel Louis Coloni and Armand François M. Le Bourgeois CIM.

Retiring from office on September 2, 1997, as of 2011 he resided with the Petites Sœurs des Pauvres at the avenue de Breteuil. Passing away on Thursday, December 18, 2014, aged 92, his funeral Mass was held at the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris on Tuesday, December 23, at 10.30 hrs., followed by interment in the crypt reserved for auxiliary bishops in the same cathedral.
