Jimmy was born on January 28, 1964 the son of Melvin Joseph Barras Sr. and Dorsey Gaudet Barras.

Jimmy was well known for playing great music on his keyboard and was in several local bands including LA South, Driftwood and Cheyenne. He enjoyed being in the outdoors spending hours fishing, and he also loved to be indoors as well, cooking for his family. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Wanda Hebert Barras of Patterson; his parents; Melvin and Dorsey Guadet Barras Sr. of Bayou Vista; two children, Jeffrey Barras and wife Asia of Lafayette and Alexis Barras of Patterson; one step-son, Cody Boudreaux, of Lake Charles; one grandson, Zachery Barras; two siblings, Cathy Barras Newlin of Stephensville and Melvin Barras Jr. of Patterson.
