Bessie A. Barnard
PENNSBORO - Bessie A. Barnard, 93, of Pennsboro departed this life Thursday, March 20, 2003, at the residence of her son in Parkersburg.
Mrs. Barnard was born Feb. 21, 1910, on Lynn Camp near Pennsboro, Ritchie County. She was a homemaker and helpmate to her husband on the family farm that overlooked new Route 50 near Pennsboro. She was a 1928 graduate of Pennsboro High School and a member of the former Route One Homemakers' Club, now known as the CEOS. She was a founding member of the Ritchie County Historical Society and was instrumental in obtaining placement of the "old stone house" of Pennsboro on the Historic Registry. She was involved in the former Ritchie County Fair as an exhibitor and volunteer. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Pennsboro where she served on the Administrative Board and also was a charter member of the United Methodist Women.
Surviving members of her loving family include one son, Richard H. Barnard of Parkersburg; one daughter-in-law, Alma A. Barnard of Sistersville; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs Barnard was preceded in death by her parents, Stewart Livingston and Ellen Phoebe Marsh Hall; her husband, John Taylor Barnard; one son, John Bradley Barnard; one brother, Lloyd T. Hall; two sisters, Artie McDannald and Orpha Hamilton; and one daughter-in-law, Emma Jean Barnard.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro with the Rev. Chris Arveson officiating. Interment will be in the Mount Harmony Masonic Cemetery of Pennsboro. Friends may call from 4:30-9 p.m. today and after 11 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
