One of fifteen children, Scawen Kenrick was baptised on the day of his birth, in the Church of St Olave Old Jewry, in the City of London
He began his education, as did two of his brothers (Matthew and Robert), at the London Merchant Taylor's School on March 12, 1707 [birth date registered as June 3, 1694, could be baptismal date]. He graduated from Corpus Christi College, Cambridge University, BA 1716, MA 1720, Doctor of Divinity 1728
From December 6, 1722, he was Rector of the Church of Saint Mary the Virgin at Hambleden, Buckinghamshire, where he built a large parsonage house, and in this parish he served throughout his life
He married Hannah and had daughters Martha {Lady Gibbons}, Elizabeth, Mary, Hannah, Ann, and Frances, three of whom survived childhood
In 1728, the year in which he was honoured with his Doctorate degree from the hands of His Majesty King George II who was at the time visiting Cambridge, Dr. Kenrick also served as Chaplain to the House of Commons at Westminster
The Reverend Dr Scawen Kenrick, DD, was installed as a Prebend in the Church of Westminster in November 1729, where he afterwards became Sub-Dean and Archdeacon. He was appointed Rector of Saint Margaret's Church, Westminister, in 1734, which post he also held until his death
After the Rev Dr Kenrick's passing, a contemporary wrote of him: "... the very worthy Dr Scawen Kenrick, ... whose charity, humanity, and benevolence flowing from one of the gentlest and best of hearts, gained him esteem and love. Such as his condescension and goodness, I speak from personal knowledge, that he would, without debasing himself, treat the poor as his brethren; and the meanest of the clergy, if not totally devoid of merit, as his friends; nor was he ever known to despise, much less to insult or trample on a man merely because he happened to be of a low rank in the church, or dependent upon him as his curate."
In June 1753 at Saint Margaret's Church, Westminister, the Reverend Dr John Butler preached on the occasion of Dr Kenrick's death, which sermon was published as a pamphlet entitled "The Man without Guile"

Inscription
In the churchyard is a mausoleum belonging to the Kenrick family; on one compartment is inscribed --
"The reverend Dr. Scawen Kenrick, sub-dean of Westminster and rector of this parish, a man without guile, assiduous and venerable in his function, exemplary in his life, ever attentive to the welfare spiritual and temporal of his family and parish, void of ambition in the midst of allurements, always benevolent and cheerful, a blessing to his country, his friends, and himself; possessed of a simplicity of heart and manners, which would have adorned the worthiest character in the purest times; beloved throughout life, and truly lamented at his death. He died May 2, 1753, in the 61st year of his age."
