Suggested edit: Ann COCKERLINE (1823-1877)
Ann was the first-born child of John COCKERLINE (1797-1875) & Mary JACKSON (1803-1869). The family bible states she was born on October 26th, 1823 and the Holmpton parish register indicates she was baptized that same day. From the Holmpton parish record of baptisms for 1823:
Ann, dau. of John and Mary COCKERLINE, Holmpton, Labourer, was baptized 26 Oct.
While some genealogies suggest Ann was born in South Stainley, it seems improbable that mother and child would travel that distance to have their child baptized the same day of Ann's birth. So, the logical assumption would be to assume that Ann was born in Holmpton, not South Stainley. That Holmpton was Ann's place of birth is collaborated by her obituary as published in the Canada Christian Guardian, February 20th, 1878 edition:
COCKERLINE, Miss Ann, daughter of the late John Cockerline, was born Oct. 26, 1823, at Holmpton, Yorkshire, came to Canada with her parents in 1834, and settled at Henrysburg, PQ . She died Aug. 29, 1877, and was buried in Henrysburg Cemetery.
Neither the 1841 nor 1861 census records for this area of LaColle seem to exist, but in the 1851 and 1871 records she was enumerated living with her parents. Ann never married and had no children. At the age of 54, she died at Henrysburg, Quebec on August 29, 1877 and was buried in the Henrysburg United Church cemetery. From the tombstone inscription:
In memory of Ann COCKERLINE. Died 29 Aug, 1877, Aged 54 years, 11 months. A native of Yorkshire, ENGLAND
