Lee Grant Blair, Galax Negro, was shot and killed some time Sunday in the home of "Dock" Montgomery, one mile west of West Galax, and Montgomery is in the Sparta, N. C., Jail, where he is being held awaiting transfer to the Grayson, County Jail at Independence.
The slain man was about 27 years of age.
The murder became known when Kyle Trlplett reported to police that Montgomery had, told him that he had killed the Negro and had hidden his body under some fodder in his rear yard.
Triplett advised him to give himself up to officers which he did in Sparta. Galax police went to the Montgomery home and found the Negro's body under the fodder with a gun beside it. The gun, which was used to fire the fatal shot, had been the property of the negro who had been arrested Saturday night by Galax police for drunkenness.
The murder evidently was committed in the front room of the Montgomery home as blood spots were found in the cracks and crevices and on the wall.
The deceased negro was a son of Roby Blair, of near Oldtown.
Montgomery will be brought to Independence and will probably be given a hearing before Trial Justice Price Goodson next Tuesday. It is expected that he will be bound over for the Grand Jury which will convene March 27.
