José Martín Apodaca was born to Pedro Apodaca and Gervasia García in La Junta, NM (renamed Watrous and drafted into Mora County in 1879) on March 5, 1866 and baptized in Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Parish, Sapello, on March 18.
On October 18, 1889, in Nuestra Señora de los Dolores Parish of Bernalillo, NM, he married Teofila Montoya, daughter of Jesús Montoya and Camila Olguín of Los Corrales.
Also in Nuestra Señora de los Dolores Parish, on January 17, 1892, Martín, widower of Teofila Montoya, married Andrea Montoya, daughter of Jesús Montoya (first cousin once removed of Jesús Montoya, the father of Teofila) and Gertrudis Carrillo of Los Corrales.
In the 1910s and 1920s Martín and Andrea homesteaded near the community of Haynes in Cañon Largo in SW Rio Arriba County. The homestead included a sturdily built capella known as El Buen Pastor--The Good Shepherd. Martín Apodaca's sister Guadalupe was married to Andrea's brother Julio Montoya, who homesteaded near Haynes. Another sister, Atanacia Apodaca, was also married to a Haynes homesteader, José de la Luz Moya.
On July 14, 1924 in Sacred Heart Parish of Farmington, NM Martín Apodaca, resident of Haynes, married Juanita Armijo, resident of Aztec who was born in Juanita (Pagosa Junction), CO in 1907 to Doroteo Armijo and Josefita Manzanares. On June 3, 1925 "Mary" Apodaca was born in Aztec.
Martín Apodaca died at age 80 in Bernalillo on February 13, 1946 and was interred February 15 (the "1945" date on the cemetery plaque appears to be in error).
