Edith Mary (Tricario) Altavilla, 101, of Metuchen, died peacefully on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born in South Plainfield, she became a lifelong resident of Metuchen when she married her husband of 75 years Joseph Altavilla. She was a seamstress at Middlesex Dress Company and a member of the AFL-CIO and the Ladies Garment Workers Union. Edith was a member of the American Italian Civic League and was one of the founding members of the Ladies Auxiliary. She loved to travel, cook for her family and take trips down to Atlantic City.
Edith is predeceased by her 4 sisters.
She is survived by her husband Joseph Altavilla; her daughter, Elaine Connelly and her husband Joseph of Edison; her son, Joseph of Metuchen and his significant other Patti Lamanna; 5 grandchildren, Ann Marie Altavilla, Jenniffer Connelly, Joseph Altavilla Jr., Mary Beth Nase, and Christine Connelly; 4 great-grandchildren, Donald Joseph, Madeline, Joseph Luke, and Vivian Isabelle; and many nieces, nephews, family, friends, and neighbors.
A visitation will take place on Friday, September 9, 2016 from 2-4pm & 7-9pm at the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave. (RT 27) Metuchen.
Services will be held Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 8:30am from the Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, followed by a 9am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Francis Cathedral in Metuchen. Entombment will follow in Woodbridge Memorial Gardens located at Rt. 1 and Woodbridge Center Drive.
