ASHEVILLE – Charles Glen Aiken, age 82, of 580 Aiken Road, died Tuesday, April 21, 2009.

Mr. Aiken was born August 29, 1926, in Buncombe County where he had lived all of his life. He was a retired National Data Climate Center meteorological technician and a US Army veteran serving during World War II, stationed in Korea. Charles was the son of the late Lawrence and Mary McCanless Aiken and was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Faye Aiken, and sisters, Lucille A. Plemmons and Nancy A. Gouge.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Iris Bradley Aiken; daughter, Janet A. Liberatore and her husband Ernest Liberatore, Jr., of Herndon, VA; son, Stanley E. Aiken and wife Jeannie C. Aiken of Jefferson, GA; grandchildren, Ernest R. Liberatore, III, Erin Liberatore, Carissa Liberatore, Zack Scannell, Morgan Scannell, Rachel Aiken, and Emily Aiken.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 25, 2009, in Alexander Chapel United Methodist Church, 880 Aiken Rd., Asheville, NC 28804, of which he was a faithful member, with Rev. Marjory Kiess officiating. Burial will be in Ashelawn Gardens of Memory with Military Graveside Rites conducted by the 14th Weather Squadron.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville where the body will remain until placed in the church one hour prior to the service. At other times, the family will be at the residence.
