He spent his entire life on the farm in the vicinity of Grassy Hollow. His greatest desire being to serve as a friend and neighbor to all whom he came in contact with, always rejoicing with the pleasures and good fortune of others, and sympathizing with and trying to help those who were in grief and trouble.
He was united in marriage to Mary Susanna Schwenke September 25, 1892. This union was blessed with one son Alva Chester Davis. He also gave a home for a number of years to Brodie Mitchell who became almost as near to him as one of his family.
He was united with the United Brethren Church in the Grassy Hollow school house when 18 years old and lived a consistant Christian life from then until the time that he was taken away. He has been in failing health for a number of years, but was always patient and cheerful, bearing his suffering without complaint, even to the time he passed away. In his last illness he expressed that he would not recover, but said that he was not afraid to go for the way looked clear to him, his only regret being that he would have to leave his family dear to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister, one half sister, one step brother and one step sister. He is survived by his companion and son Alva, two grandchildren Oma and Carl, one brother, Thomas Franklin Davis, two half sisters, Mrs Omer Dennis and Mrs Ira Inboden, one half brother Arthur Perrine, all of near Oblong, one step brother Edward Perrine of Popular Bluff, Missouri., two step sisters, Mrs Dora Cruse and Mrs Effie McCrillis of Flint, Michigan and a host of relatives and friends who will sadly mourn his departure.
