Ed was the son of Carl Edward and Helen Jewel Frederick Abbott, Sr. Ed was married to Linda Sharp on December 19, 1981 in Springdale, Washington County, Arkansas. Ed was a devoted band teacher throughout his life. His career began in Mena, then Rogers, and retired after 27 years from Central Junior High School in Springdale. He was named Arkansas Band Director of the Year in 2002, and served as president of the Arkansas Band Masters Association. For 15 years he chaperoned the Razorback Band. He also taught private lessons and was highly sought after throughout the region. Ed was a member of Cross Church.

He is survived by his wife, Linda, of the home; a daughter, Ashleigh Michalik and husband Zach, and their children, Clairissa and Hannah all of Springdale; a brother, Gary Abbott of Stanley, Kansas; and four sisters, Linda Marenic of Canastota, New York, Debbie Daily of Ft. Smith, Karen Beeks of Farmington, and Amy Smith of Fayetteville.
