E.A. (Bill) Elam, 95, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 15, 2004. Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday Oct. 23, 2004 at Stroud Funeral Home, 538 Brazosport Blvd., Clute TX 77531 with Reverend H.O. Bilderback officiating. Final resting place will be Tabernacle Cemetery in Hazlehurst, MS.
He was a 15 year resident of Lake Jackson and formerly of Los Angeles, CA and Jackson, MS.
He was preceded in death by wife Eva Lupo Elam, son E. Anthony Elam of Palm Springs, CA and parents Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Elam of Quitman, MS.
He is survived by son Roger A. Elam and beloved grandchildren R. Alan Elam II, John Austin Elam, and Lee Bostick Elam, all of Lake Jackson; sister, Beatrice Sepulveda and numerous nelces and nephews.
Born May 31, 1909 in Clark Co. ,MS as one of ten children he decided early on that the family tobacco and farming business was not for him. Thus began an 80 year odyssy of adventure, hardwork and self-sacrifice for the benefit of others.
His many exploits included a stint as a merchant seaman while still in his teens, a horse soldier in the storied Fifth Cavalry, race car driver, pilot and business man. He "lived" for all of his 95 years. He leaves a legacy of personal integrity, honesty, hard work and humor that touched the lives of many. He will be missed.
