Longtime Staten Islander Rosalia Abate , 92, of Great Kills, a successful clothing manufacturer and master designer who owned the former L'Exclusif bridal salon in Grasmere, died Sunday at Staten Island University Hospital, Prince's Bay.

Born Rosalia Savino in Castel Ruggiero, Provincia di Salerno, Italy, she came to Brooklyn in 1958, then settled in Great Kills 10 years later.

For many years, she owned and operated L'Exclusif on Hylan Boulevard, until retiring about 15 years ago.

Mrs. Abate enjoyed gardening, cooking and was devoted to taking care of her loved ones.

She was a parishioner of St. Clare's R.C. Church, Great Kills.

"She was an exceptional woman," said her daughter, Katherine Abate -Cotter, "Anyone who met her couldn't resist her smile, including her daughter-in-law, Isabella Abate , whom she treated like her third daughter."

"She touched everyone's life with her loving spirit," added her daughter Annette Abate -Risso.

Mrs. Abate was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Giuseppe, who died in 2008, and a son, Dennis, who died in 1975.

The funeral will be Friday from the Colonial Funeral Home, New Dorp, with a mass at 10 a.m. in St. Ann's R.C. Church, Dongan Hills. Burial will follow in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.
