Herman Paul Aldridge, age 78, of Mio, Michigan, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, November 21, 2001, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on June 5, 1923, in Andrews (Huntington County), Indiana, the son of the late Samuel Newton and Irene (Hyatt) Aldridge. He married the former Beulah Bowles on January 12, 1942, in Midland County, Michigan.
Mr. Aldridge came to Midland with his family in 1927 and was employed by the Dow Chemical Company from 1942 until his retirement as a foreman in September of 1976.
At that time, he moved to Blanchard, Michigan, where he resided until 1987, when he moved back to Mio, Michigan.
He loved the game of horseshoes and was a member of the M-46 Horseshoe Club and the Inter City Horseshoe Club. In 1972, he won a state championship in the horseshoe competition.
Mr. Aldridge was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II, with the 246th combat engineers and was a member of American Legion Post Number162.
Funeral services were held today at 11:00 A.M. at the Smith-Miner Funeral Home, with the Reverend Jerry Wallace officiating. The Colling Church of the Nazarene officiated the interment with military honors by the veterans of Midland County at the Homer Township Cemetery in Midland County, Michigan.
Herman is survived by his wife, Beulah Aldridge, of Mio, Michigan; his daughters and sons-in-laws, Sandra Aldridge, of Holland (Ottawa County), Michigan, Rhonda (Frank) Justice, of Davison (Genesee County), Michigan and Linda (Paul) Madison, of Mio, Michigan; two brothers, Glen Aldridge, of Midland County, Michigan and Chet Aldridge, of Freeland (Saginaw County), Michigan and his sister, Margaret "Fran" Simmons, of Midland County, Michigan; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Greg Aldridge, two brothers, Ralph and Philip Aldridge and two sisters, Pauline Linton and Madeline Walters.
The family gives special thanks to his granddaughter, Dana, for her help with Grandpa.
