Albert "Boots" was born in Mullins Hospital in Marion County on November 28, 1928. He was the son of the late Vernie Hoyt and Isla Coleman Altman. He was a lifelong resident of Marion, SC, but would not miss making daily trips to his beloved farm in Galivants Ferry, SC in Horry County.

Mr. Altman was a graduate of Horry County High School where he was and avid basketball player and in 1950 he graduated from Clemson University. He served his country in the Korean Conflict and was married to Margaret "Peggy" Johnson from Latta, SC until her death in September of 1984.

Mr. Altman had a passion for his cows, goats and farming. He truly enjoyed the land God had made and was an avid lover of agriculture. He could name any plant by its biological name, but had to be pressed to show his knowledge as he was a humble man.

He was a member of the Marion Baptist Church where he had served as youth leader, Sunday School teacher, deacon, and various church committees. He was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Dorothy Culick Kirby Altman; two daughters, Margaret Gatch (Harry) and Carolyn Fitchett, all of Summerville, SC; three stepchildren, Randy Kirby of Charlotte, NC, Drs. Wayne and Susan Roe of Tifton, GA; one sister, Nancy Moore (Don) of Annadale, VA; 4 grandsons; 3 step grandchildren; and 4 step greatgrandchildren.
