Marion, Oct. 19 - A. B. Ammons, one of Marion's oldest
citizens died at his home on Farilee street, Thursday,
October 9, after a lingering illness. Mr. Ammons was
born near Marion, August 11, 1856. He resided in this
county all his life, moving to Marion a number of
years ago.

He was a farmer and storekeeper, and during his life
accumulated a comfortable fortune. He was a quiet,
peaceful man and followed his daily pursuits in an
orderly manner. His death brings sorrow to a large
number of relatives and friends.

He was interred at Rose Hill Cemetery. The Rev. D. M
Simmons, pastor of the Baptist church of which the
deceased was a faithful member, conducted the
services, assisted by Dr. D. M. McLeod, pastor of the
First Methodist church.

Mr. Ammons is survived by his widow (Rachel Alma Baxley)and eleven
children. The children are: Mrs. Wade Snipes, H. W.
Ammons, Willis Ammons, Mrs. Walter Shaw, James Ammons,
Edward Ammons, Liston Ammons, Walker Ammons , Hyman
Ammons, Davis Ammons and Burroughs Ammons
