Shirley Lee Bias Blake, 72, of Morgantown, WV, passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at her residence.

She was born on April 29, 1937 in Arthurdale, WV, the daughter of the late Wyatt M. and Helen Nelson Bias, who were original Arthurdale Homesteaders, a community founded by Eleanor Roosevelt.

She was a loving mother and grandmother. She graduated from Arthurdale High School in 1956. She was employed at Gabriel Brothers for several years. She was a member of the Ebenezer Baptist Church, the Women‘s Mission of the Ebenezer Baptist Church, and the Arthurdale Heritage Society.

She is survived by two daughters, Victoria Price, of Morgantown, and Glenda Palmer and spouse James, of Morgantown, WV; four grandsons Christopher W. Standfill, Scott B. Goldsborough, James “Nick” Palmer III, and James “Travis” Price ; two granddaughters Chelsey L. Palmer and Taylor B. Price; one great granddaughter Skyelar P. Goldsborough; one nephew; and six nieces.

She is the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by her parents, three sisters Barbara J. Field, Juanita Cornett, and Clara Moore, and six brothers, Richard C, Eugene K, Glyn W, Norman L, Donald W. and James C. Bias.

Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown, WV on Thursday, June 11 from 3 - 5pm and 7-9 pm. Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday, June 12 at 11am with the Pastor Ronald Ford officiating. Interment will follow at the Arthurdale Cemetery.
