Elizabeth Ann "Libby" Akers, 89 of 104 Ovenbird Court, Quail Valley, in Princeton passed from the trials and tribulations of this life into glory and joy unspeakable in the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, May 16, 2010, at her residence after a prolonged illness.

Born April 6, 1921 in Charleston, WV she was the daughter of the late Pauline Godbey Wolford and the late William Millard Wolford, her beloved father. Her husband, Dan M. Akers, Sr., whom she dearly loved,

preceded her in death as well as two infant sons. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Chloe Wolford Leshkow.

She was a graduate of Princeton High School class of 1940, where she was Homecoming Queen in her senior year. She was also a graduate of Little French Beauty Academy where she graduated as a cosmetologist. Blessed with grace as well as extraordinary beauty, Libby successfully opened and operated the Merle Norman Cosmetic Studios in Bluefield, Princeton, and Beckley where she loved her customers and loved to help them look their absolute best to accomplish their goals in all aspects of their life.

She especially enjoyed working at the West Virginia Hotel in Bluefield. She was a member of the Princeton Presbyterian Church and very active with the youth in earlier years. She was also a member of the Rebekkah Circle. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, fabulous cook and friend, as well as a wonderful person. Her best and most lasting legacy was her sense of humor. She loved to travel, including traveling on fabulous trips to Merle Norman Conventions in many exotic locations where she would bring back new ideas and products for her customers.

She loved gardening and belonged to the Periwinkle Garden Club. She also loved to dance, attend parties, listen to music, play bridge, spend time with her friends and totally love life. She was also a member of the Bluefield Quota Club. She will be missed by her family and friends and will remain in their hearts for eternity.

Survivors left to cherish her memory include two sons, William J. Akers and wife Patricia Sue Akers, and Dan M. Akers, Jr. and wife Carolyn Sue Akers all of Princeton; seven grandchildren, William Gregory Akers, Kristina Akers Adams and husband John, Krista Michelle Akers Osborne and husband Ben, Wendy Ann Pryor and husband Steve, Dandridge M. Akers, III, Katherine Bernice Akers Hidalgo and husband Oliver and Xi Bo Akers;

step grandchildren, Alvin L. White, Jr., Mike A. White, Tony White and Jimmy White; great grandchildren, Colin Osborne, Lauren and Jackson Pryor, Katie, Jane, and Jack Adams ; special niece and neighbor, Anna Lynne Daisey and husband Dick of Princeton, special nieces Ann Akers Hlusko and husband Paul and San Leshkow Hammonds and husband Larry; special nephews, Douglas Akers and wife Ann and Nick Leshkow and wife Patricia of Chesapeake, VA; and an extra special angel in disguise and caregiver, Gary Cockerham and his dog Sadie.

In keeping with her wishes for late day appointments, funeral services will be conducted 3:00 PM, Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with Rev. Jim Stanley and Father Bill Armstrong officiating.

Burial will follow at Resthaven Park Cemetery in Princeton. Serving as pallbearers will be Greg Akers, Dan M. Akers, III, Ben Osborne, Steve Pryor, Mike White and Gary Cockerham.

Friends may call at Seaver Funeral Home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday (today). The family requests that remembrances be made to Hospice Compassus, 1033 Stafford Dr., Princeton, WV 24740; Pettrey Church of Christ, Pettrey Road, Athens, WV 24712; or Episcopal Church of the Heavenly Rest, 1207 Mercer St., Princeton, WV 24740.
