John was retired from the U.S. Navy in 1982 as a Lt. Commander after serving in the Pacific Theater in WWII and in Korea during the Korean Conflict. John loved his country so much and was able to visit the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC in 2008, traveling with Honor Air.
He was a graduate of the University of TN, receiving his degree in Business Administration. John was a retiree from Martin Marietta, Y-12 Facility, retiring in 1990 after 29 years of service.
John was a 50-year member of the J.C. Baker Masonic Lodge #720 in Maynardville, TN and a 50- year member of the Scottish Rite Freemasonry.
His survivors include his wife of 47 years, Kathleen Acuff, Oak Ridge and
step-son, Michael Doughty and wife, Linda, Knoxville, and a multitude of dear friends.
The family would like to thank K-Mart Pharmacy for their care and thoughtfulness and John's coffee buddies at Panera for their friendship.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 28th, 11 AM at Bookwalter Cemetery, Knoxville, with John McKeever officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Honor Air or The World War II Memorial. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 – 7 PM at Weatherford Mortuary.
