Martha Ann Lockhart was born on 17 May 1861 in or near Niantic, Macon County, Illinois. She married Thomas Jefferson Freeman on 23 February 1876 in Illiopolis, Sangamon County, Illinois. She died on 20 October 1961 in Wellington, Sumner County, Kansas, and was buried on 24 October 1961 in the United Presbyterian Cemetery in Downs Township, Sumner County, Kansas. This is a small cemetery - and is located in the northeast corner of the Northwest Quarter of Section 6, Township 33 South, Range 2 West, about 3 miles south and 1 1/2 miles west of Mayfield.

Thomas Jefferson Freeman and Martha Ann Lockhart had eight children: William Wesley (died as an infant); Leslie Alphard; Arlonzo L(ockhart); Bessie Paulina; Pearle Glenna; Stella Isabelle; Ralph Lenard; and Cecil Everett.

Martha Ann Lockhart was the daughter of Calvin James Lockhart (1831-1862) and his second wife, Paulina Hughes (1835-1917). They had two children: Martha Ann and Caroline. Martha Ann Lockhart married Thomas Jefferson Freeman, and Caroline Lockhart married Thomas' younger brother, Henry Clay Freeman. Calvin James Lockhart was married, first to Susan A Averitt. They had two children: Susan Lockhart (died young), and James Calvin Lockhart ("Calvin Jr"). Paulina Hughes married, second, to William Ford. They had one child: Charles Robert Ford. William Ford had been married, first, to Rebecca Jane Ford. They had two children: Stephen (died young), and Jesse Monroe. Calvin James Lockhart and William Ford were together in the Civil War, but Calvin died in the War. Calvin Lockhart Jr became a Methodist minister.

Calvin James Lockhart is buried in the Long Point Cemetery, Niantic, Macon County, Illinois. Paulina Hughes is buried in the Maplewood Cemetery, Emporia, Lyon County, Kansas. William Ford is buried in the Cassoday Cemetery, Cassoday, Butler County, Kansas. Henry Clay Freeman and his wife Caroline Lockhart are buried in the Wonsevu Cemetery, Wonsevu, Chase County, Kansas. Calvin Lockhart Jr is buried in the Mt Hope Cemetery, Urbana, Champaign County, Illinois. Charles Robert Ford died in Denver, Colorado, in 1946, but is buried in Kansas.
