Robert Dean Austin, 77, of South Haven, died Thursday (December 21, 2006) at the Kansas Medical Center of Andover. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Tuesday (December 26. 2006) at the Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home of Arkansas City. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery of Ashton.
Visitation hours will be Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Tuesday 9:00 to Noon.

Robert was born July 22, 1929, at Wellington to Herbert L., Sr. and Vera (Daugherty) Austin. He was reared and educated in Portland, Kansas and graduated from South Haven High School in 1947. Robert married Lois Crosswhite on August 16, 1950 at the Union Chapel Church of Hennessey, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in South Haven. Robert served in the United States Army from 1953-55, during that time the couple lived in Texas. Robert and Lois farmed and ranched near the South Haven area for many years. He was an avid outdoors man, a member of Pheasants Forever, Inc., the UKC, and American Coon Hunter's Association.

Survivors include his wife Lois of the home; son Clint and his wife Tracy of Arkansas City; a daughter Cindy Ball of Arkansas City; foster daughter Debra Flamik of Arkansas City; a brother Herbert L. Austin, Jr. of South Haven; a sister Margery Cully of Arkansas City; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law Ricky Ball.

Memorials have been established with Pheasants Forever or the 4-H Horse Scholarship Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
