Alleged Murderer. He received notoriety for being the alleged murderer in a very publicized case involving the the death of a California law enforcement officer. On the night of May 8, 1967, the Los Angeles Police Department from the Van Nuys Division received a call that someone had stolen bottles of wine from Dales Market at 6821 Lennox Boulevard. According to witnesses, the alleged thief was a sixteen-year-old named William McKinley Miller, who was later found crouching behind a small wall at the Van Nuys Recreation Center at 14301 Vanowen. It was reported that Miller aimed a 30.06 caliber rifle at Officer Roger Warren firing several shots. Warren, a twenty-three-year-old rookie policeman, who had graduated from the police academy two weeks earlier, was killed. Other officers returned fire killing Miller.
