Civil War Brigadier General. He was the tenth child of Colonel Joshua Ladd and Anna Blackwood Howell. He was born in West Deptford Township, Gloucester County, New Jersey. He was an attorney in practice in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. In 1861 he was commissioned a Colonel in the 85th Pennsylvania Volunteers. he was appointed Brigadier General just two days before his death. The General died near Petersburg, Virginia, when a horse he had just mounted reared back and fell on him.
