Roman Catholic Religious Figure. A Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church, he was born in Coronda, near Santa Fe. He studied at the Seminary of Santa Fe and was ordained in this same town, on March 23, 1912. In Santa Fe, he did pastoral work and was a Faculty member of the Seminary from 1913 to 1931. In this same period, he was also very active in the Argentinean Catholic Action. From 1933 to 1934, he served as Vicar general of Military Ordinary. He was consecrated bishop of Rosario, on September 13, 1934. Pope Pius XII created him cardinal on February 18, 1946. In the 1940s and 1950s, he acted as pontifical legate to various eucharistic congresses and Episcopal meetings all across Latin America. He was persecuted by the Peronist regime, in 1955. He was promoted to the primatial metropolitan see of Buenos Aires, on August 15, 1959. He participated in the conclave of 1958. He was a member of the Board of the Presidency of Vatican II Council, from 1962 to 1965. He participated in the conclave of 1963. He resigned the pastoral government of his archdiocese, on April 22, 1975. He died in 1979 in Buenos Aires.
