Religious Figure. He arrived in America in 1846, and introduced the Benedictine Order into the United States. He is honored as the first Benedictine abbot in this country. His monastery of St. Vincent's in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, was the center from which missionaries were sent, and was itself instrumental in the founding of other Benedictine houses in this country.
