North Dakota Governor. He attended the Michigan State Normal School and then worked in the insurance industry in Illinois and North Dakota. Entering politics, he was president of the North Dakota Constitutional Convention, served as the North Dakota State Insurance Commissioner, (1895-99) and was a trustee board member for the North Dakota State Hospital for the Insane. In 1899, he was elected as a Republican the seventh Governor of North Dakota, serving until 1901. While he was in office, a state board of pardons was formed and a twine plant in the state penitentiary system was established. After his term, he relocated to California and was in the wholesale grocery business until his retirement in 1925.
